The Wisconsin Department of Transportation (WisDOT) will hold a public involvement meeting from 5:30 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2019, in the Bryant Elementary School gymnasium, 1423 Central Ave., Superior, WI 54880. WisDOT will share and discuss plans for an improvement project on the WIS 35 (Tower Avenue) and WIS 105 (Central Avenue)-North 61st Street intersection, allowing members of the public to share their opinions and insights. To access the meeting, please enter Door 3 at the school at the scheduled time. The meeting will be an informal open house. Exhibits showing the plan concepts and impacts will be on display. WisDOT representatives will be available to discuss the project on an individual basis. The purpose of the project is to improve the safety and functionality of the intersection. To fulfill this purpose, the project will consist of the following: • Improving traffic signals • Constructing median islands • Reconfiguring traffic lanes • Reconstructing sidewalk curb ramps • Installing railroad gates and arms • Adding two parking spots on WIS 35 The project will be constructed under traffic. The road width allows for a staged construction project, where each “stage” will consist of lane shifts and counter-directional traffic while work is performed on the opposite side of the roadway. No detour routes are proposed; though, occasional overnight closures are anticipated. Access modifications will be made due to median construction, driveway relocation and elimination of parking spots. The public is encouraged to attend the meeting, provide input and ask questions. If people are unable to attend the meeting or would like more information, they can contact Stephanie King at (715) 392-7874 or stephanie.king@dot.wi.gov. Comments also can be mailed to Stephanie King, Wisconsin Department of Transportation, 1701 N. Fourth St., Superior, WI 54880. Citizens who are hearing-impaired and require an interpreter may request one by contacting Christena T. O’Brien at least three working days prior to the meeting via the Wisconsin Telecommunications Relay System (dial 711).
